Mary E. Burnette McCracken Murphy, 87, died peacefully at home, in Washington, Pennsylvania, on April 7, 2022. She was born on March 10, 1935, a daughter of the late Albert and Alverta (Lattimore) Burnette. Mary graduated from Trinity High School in 1953, and enlisted in the US Air Force. She received an honorable discharge and the National Defense Service Medal. She married the late Willis “Pete” McCracken on October 23, 1955. They were married 47 years until his passing in 2002. In November 2012, she married William ‘Murph’ Murphy, who survives. Mary worked at Washington Garment Company (Bobbie Brooks) for 25 years until the factory closed. She then went to work at Black Box in Lawrence, working for 20 years until retiring. Kind and generous to others her entire life, Mary was always ready to bring someone home for holiday dinners and buy gifts for the less fortunate. She was an active volunteer for years at The Washington Hospital, read to the blind at the library, donated her platelets as often as medically approved, and much more. Mary was a beautiful artist, capturing many family events on canvas. She loved to travel and took many bus trips across the country while her husband Murph drove the bus. She loved seeing our country! She enjoyed Friday afternoons with the McDonald’s coffee gang! Even during COVID restrictions, the gang all met in the parking lot, stayed in their cars, and kept the friendships connected, which was very important to her One of her proudest accomplishments, after retirement, was joining the Daughters of the American Revolution. Mary became a member of National Pike Chapter, Washington, Pa. She was so proud of her patriotic lineage and wore her DAR pins proudly! She was predeceased by husband, Pete McCracken; son, Mark McCracken, Sr.; siblings, Margaret McCullough, Hazel Dental, William Burnette, and Clifford Burnette; a special niece, Jodi Burnette McNich; and grandson, Jacob McCracken; and her very special grandmother, Mary Etta Lattimore. She is survived by husband, Bill Murphy; daughter, Debra McCracken of Williston, Vermont; son, Bruce McCracken (Darla Podish) of Washington; 3 grandsons; 2 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Irene McCracken Hodgson; many nieces, nephews, family and friends. She leaves behind very special nieces, Susie, Carla, Brenda and Donna; special nephews, John Burnette and John Hodgson; a special friend, Jeff Murray; her best friends, sharing their lives for over 60 years, Margaret Howard and Joyce Mesko; and her very special “sister”-in-law, Jean Burnette. Thank you to Dr. Fred Landenwitsch, staff at Concordia Hospice and Donnell House, and special thanks to Kelli Diaz, Maddie Kemp and Roxanne Sweeney for the extra special care and comfort that they gave to Mary and family. There will be no calling hours. If you would like to celebrate Mary’s life, please consider making a donation to your favorite charity. Arrangements have been entrusted to William G.
