Mary Jane Yevins

Mary Jane Yevins, 94, of Washington, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2025, in Washington Hospital.

She was born on January 25, 1931, in Washington, the daughter of the late James Sonson and Florence (Longo) Sonson.

Mary Jane was a graduate of Immaculate Conception High School and graduated at the age of 16.

She was Catholic by faith and a member of Immaculate Conception Church, where she was a member of the Christian Mothers.She also volunteered at the Immaculate Conception High School cafeteria. Her faith was central to her life in everything from praying the rosary to how she treated people, especially her family and friends. She was kind, loving, generous and forgiving. She made friends easily and treated everyone with respect.

Mary Jane enjoyed knitting, crocheting and playing cards, especially 500 Bid.

On April 26, 1952, she married Stephen Yevins, who passed away October 28, 2018.

Surviving are a son, Vincent (Missy) Yevins; a daughter, Stephanie (Kent) Hughes; seven grandchildren, Aleea, Jared, Brady, Stephen, Meredith, Matthew, and Erin; seven great-grandchildren, Jaymeson, Amelia, Aleena, Alivia, Grace, William and Alice; many nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law, Helen Sonson.

Deceased, in addition to her husband and parents, are a son, James (Leeann) Yevins; a brother, Vincent Sonson; and three sisters, Rita (Terry) Fetsko, Frances (John) Mele and Lenora (Elmer) Jackson.

Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 18, 2025, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 19, 2025, in Immaculate Conception Church, 119 West Chestnut Street, Washington, with Father Michael Peck officiating. Burial will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, McMurray.
