Matilda Spino

April 17, 1930 — March 25, 2023

Matilda "Lil” Spino, 92, of Washington, died peacefully on March 25, 2023, at Standish Assisted Living. Matilda, named by her godfather, was born on April 17, 1930, in Dearborn, MI, a daughter of the late Emilio and Inez Alvarez Morais. Matilda was a graduate of Fordson High School in Dearborn, MI. Lil was a woman of God, and a member of Friendship Community Church. Mrs. Spino worked for Brockway Glass #7 before fulfilling her proudest role, caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and was known as Nunnie by all. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren fiercely, and cherished being able to care for them. Lil was devout in her faith, knew her Bible well, and loved the Lord. Lil was an accomplished seamstress, known for designing everything from Halloween costumes to wedding gowns. She was an excellent cook and baker whose apple pie was desired by anyone who tasted it. Lil was considered the family historian, and loved to regale family and friends with captivating stories of her childhood. She even had a knack for making up her own exaggerated tales. With an infectious laugh and incredible sense of humor, Lil never left out a detail, even if the laugh was at her own expense. Lil married Frank Spino, on April 23, 1949. Her late husband was the love of her life. Surviving are a son, Joe (Melinda) Spino; three daughters, Linda Roybal, Gina Cario, Anna (Lennie) Patterson; eleven grandchildren, Ashley, Ben, JoAna, Natalie, Amanda, Lyndsay, Lauran, Jessica, Morgan, Hilary, and Searra; nineteen great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Margene Spino, Carmella Spino and Yolanda Spino; as well as many nieces and nephews and her long-time friend, Louie Apolloni. Deceased are five brothers; and two sisters. Friends and family are welcome on Thursday, March 30, 2023, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, where funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 31, 2023, with Pastor Rick Bruckner officiating.
