Mona Lou Dunn

Mona Lou McVay Dunn, 92, of Prosperity, passed away in her home on January 22, 2026.

She was born March 20, 1933, a daughter of the late Robert B. McVay and Gladys Miller McVay.

Mona Lou Graduated from Trinity High School in 1951. After High School, she went on to Irene’s Beauty Academy and graduated in 1964.

She opened Dunn’s Beauty Shop and operated out of her home for over 50 years. She enjoyed every moment of her time spent working.

Mona Lou was an active member of Upper Ten Mile Presbyterian Church for over 82 years. She was the Sunday School superintendent, Sunday School teacher, choir member, financial secretary, ruling Elder, Presbyterian Women’s treasurer and moderator, in addition to any other activity going on at the church.

On June 29, 1951, she married Robert G. Dunn at the Mansion House in Old Concord. They enjoyed over 50 years of marriage before he passed on August 6, 2009.

Mona Lou is survived by two children, Greg R. (Susan) Dunn of Prosperity and Jennifer (the late Randy Mayo) Dunn; two grandchildren, Greg R. (Amanda) Dunn Jr. and Robert R. (Leslie) Dunn both of Washington; four great grandchildren, Riley N. Dunn, Erin E. Dunn, Emmett M. Dunn and Graham G. Dunn.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband and parents, are four siblings, Robert B. McVay Jr., Edith Chapman, Wallace “Bud” McVay and La Vada Jo Dixon.

Friends and family will be received from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2026, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where a funeral service will follow with Cody Rogers officiating. Burial will take place in Prosperity Cemetery.
