Nancy Lee Bishop

August 9, 1931 — December 15, 2022

Nancy Lee Bishop, of Amity, passed away quietly with the hand of the Lord guiding her home on December 15, 2022. Nancy was born in Pittston on August 9, 1931, to the late Frank and Olive Davis of Falls, Pennsylvania. She had two lovely sisters, Arlene and Myrtle, a brother, Milan, and a special cousin, Carl Felter. Nancy graduated from West Pittston High School in 1949, and then from Scranton Lackawanna Business College. She worked for NY Life Insurance in Scranton and at Kappel’s Jewelry in Washington. Mrs. Bishop enjoyed reading, sewing, and watching her favorite Pirates and Steelers teams. She sang in various choruses and played the piano and flute. Nancy was a member of the Church of Christ for over 50 years. She taught Sunday School for 42 years and Tuesday School for many years, which she loved. She also volunteered for Meals and Wheels. On January 1, 1953, she married Richard D. Bishop, who passed away from this life on December 7, 2011. She missed him dearly as they were always together through his 25 years of retirement. She was also preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Laurie Jones. Nancy loved her children dearly, and adored each and every one of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by daughters, Olivia Gump and Sheridan of Metz, West Virginia, and Betsy Kotora of Waynesburg; a son Richard Bishop (whom she said “was always her helper”) and Tammy of Amity; grandchildren, Jalane Stanley of Fairmont, West Virginia; Jalena Baumgardner of Concord, North Carolina, Joshua Gump of Burton, West Virginia, Tanner Dawson Kotora of Waynesburg, Lindy Jones and Lance Jones, both of Nashville, Tennessee, Seth Bishop, Cara Bishop and Kelsey Bishop, all of Amity; great-grandchildren; Colton, Caleb and Josie Stanley of Fairmont, West Virginia, and Ainslee and Addison Baumgardner of Concord, North Carolina; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Bishop and Dr. Robert Bishop; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Tonya, Diana, and Betty for the love and care shown to Nancy. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, December 21st, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, December 22nd, in The Church of Christ, 700 Allison Avenue, Washington, with David Deagel officiating. Burial in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, do a kindness for someone in Nancy’s memory. Memorial donations may be made to Amwell or Lone Pine Fire Department.
