Ralph “Marshall” Gwilliam, 83, of Hickory, passed away on Saturday, September 13, 2025, in UPMC Washington.
He was born March 6, 1942, in Washington, the son of the late Ralph Weaver Gwilliam and Roberta Francis Cutright Gwillliam.
Marshall was a graduate of Washington High School, Class of 1960, and lettered in Track & Field. Continuing his education, Marshall graduated with high honors from CCAC in 1986, with a certificate in Foreman and Superintendent Training.
He was a Steamfitter of Local Union 449, retiring after 60 years, having started his apprenticeship at the age of 16.
Marshall also served in the Pennsylvania National Guard from 1964 through 1970, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He was activated for duty during the Vietnam War, serving stateside as a Drill Sergeant at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.
He was a volunteer firefighter and Constable with the Castle Shannon Fire Department and Township for many years. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Elks in Washington
Marshall was Protestant in faith.
He was an avid Corvette collector as well as belonging to the Duncan Miller Glass Club in Washington
Marshall is survived by Patricia; a son, Ralph Weaver Gwilliam II (Mary); daughters Wendy Gwilliam, Lori Ruben (David), and Amy Matteson (Matt); seven grandchildren, Brayden Marshall, Nathan, Adair, Nemi, Quinn, Avery, and Grayson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Marshall was preceded in death by his sister, Sharon.
Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where a funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 18, 2025. Military rites will be accorded at the funeral home by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175. Burial will be private to family.
