Raymond Eugene Clemens, born May 4, 1956, in Washington, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at his home on August 17, 2026, with his loving family by his side. His journey through life was marked by steadfast dedication to those he loved, unwavering kindness, and a warmth that touched all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Ray’s roots were planted deeply in Washington, PA, where he attended Avella High School until 1973 before graduating from Washington High School in 1974. His early years were shaped by a close-knit family and a strong sense of community—a foundation he would carry with him throughout his life.
After high school, Ray served his country with great pride. He enlisted in the United States Army on April 19, 1976, completing his basic training at Fort Dix and joining the storied 82nd Airborne. He served honorably until April 18, 1979, and continued to commit himself as a member of the Army Reserves until April 13, 1982. This period instilled in him a deep sense of discipline, camaraderie, and duty—values which would become central to who he was.
Ray was a skilled and reliable worker, known for his time at V-Bat Plastic, Superior Valve, and Ensigner. His resourcefulness shone in everything he did—whether on the job, at home, or helping out his brother with his CDL in more recent years. He was a handyman in the truest sense: the person everyone turned to when something needed fixing, not just because of his skill, but because of his friendly and considerate nature.
His family was Ray's heart. On April 16, 2008, in a simple and heartfelt ceremony at the justice of the peace, he married Doris Mercer Clemens. That day, the justice of the peace offered Ray some sage advice: "Make sure you stay out of trouble." Those words brought laughter then and endured as a lighthearted memory, a testament to the deep joy and mutual respect that filled their marriage. Doris and Ray shared not only many happy years together, but also countless treasured memories—a partnership marked by companionship, love, and devotion.
Ray found immense joy in his blended family. He is survived by his loving wife, Doris; his step-sons, Brandon Presto and Matthew Presto; and his beloved grandchildren, Lucas, Mila, Finnley. These children brought a special light to his life, and every moment spent with them was precious to him.
He was also cherished by his brother, William "Henry" (Karen) Clemens, and his sister, Linda Chieffalo, with whom he shared a lifetime of memories. Nephews Scott Sr and Patrick, and niece Michele and great nephews Scott Jr., Noah and great niece Sarah. He will also be missed by his 4 legged companions Champ and Holly.
Ray’s love for life extended far beyond the walls of his home. Weekends were often spent with his father-in-law, making the rounds to sign the books at local clubs—a ritual that brought laughter and community to his days. An active member of the American Legion, Ray enjoyed the fellowship and camaraderie of its community, especially during bike runs on his prized Harley Davidson with the Legion Riders. Those windswept motorcycle trips were among his greatest joys—times spent feeling free, surrounded by good friends, and living in the moment. Ray was also a member of the Arden Club, Slovak Club, Westland Club.
Some of Ray’s fondest memories were made in the great outdoors. He loved hunting and fishing with his brother Henry, forging bonds rooted as much in shared adventure as in mutual respect.
Ray’s legacy is one of incredible hard work, deep kindness, and unwavering thoughtfulness. He was known for being considerate to everyone he met—quick with a smile, generous with his time, always ready to help a neighbor or friend in need. Those qualities, remembered fondly by all who crossed his path.
Raymond is preceded in death by his brother, Michael Edward Clemens; his brother-in-law, Al Chieffalo; and by his beloved parents, Gaylord Clemens and Ettie Martha Elizabeth Buffington. Their memories remained ever-present in his heart, and he honored them with a lifetime of integrity and love.
Friends and Family are invited to the William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Ave. Washington PA on Thursday August 20, 2026 from 3PM to 7PM. A funeral service will take place at 7PM followed by Full Military Honors accorded by the Edward Scott Litton American Legion Post 175.
