Raymond L Fonner, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on February 7, 2026, at his home in Washington, PA, surrounded by his beloved wife Patricia and son David. He was born on October 24, 1946, in Washington, PA, and his life was marked by service, dedication, and a deep love for his family and faith.
Ray had a remarkable career, retiring after a devoted 35 years with Komatsu (formerly Joy Mining and Machinery). His commitment to hard work was matched only by his dedication to family. An alumnus of Trinity High School, "Class of 1965," he furthered his education at Val Technical School upon returning home from his service in the United States Army. He proudly served overseas in Germany from 1965 until 1967, an experience that shaped his life and values.
Throughout his life, Ray exemplified kindness and a welcoming spirit. Known for always being willing to lend a helping hand, he took on the role of Cub Scout Leader and Scout Master for Troop 1025 in Washington, PA, sharing his passion for the outdoors and love for camping with numerous young scouts on memorable trips. His involvement and leadership in the community extended beyond scouting; he was a proud member of The American Legion, Edwin Scott Linton Post #175 in Washington, as well as a Past Master of Sunset Lodge #623 Free Accepted Masons.
Ray cherished his retirement community in Palm View Gardens in Zephyrhills, Florida, where he cultivated friendships and enjoyed the company of those around him. His greatest pride, however, was his family—his loving wife Patricia Reed, who he married on December 6, 1969, with whom he shared an incredible 56 years filled with love and companionship. He was a doting father to David and the late Raymond and a proud grandfather to Elena, who was truly the light of his life. He is also survived by his loving daughter-in-law Johnna Fonner, and numerous in laws: Sharon Heiney, Nancy (Richard) Leksell, Kimberly (David) Lisi, Beth (Michael) Hough, and Patricia Fonner; along with a brother-in-law, Dennis (Joan) Reed.
Ray was predeceased by his beloved son, Raymond Edward Fonner, who passed on February 7, 2024, and his parents, Raymond E. and Sophia (Tarsia) Fonner. He is also remembered by his late brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Helen Louise and Ronald Grabiak, Bernard Fonner, Ronald and Lois Ann Fonner, Linda and Donald Anders, and Edward Heiney.
In every aspect of his life, Ray instilled a sense of family first and a deep love for Jesus, traits that will continue to resonate within his community and family. His remarkable journey through life leaves behind a legacy of warmth, support, and unwavering love. He will be dearly missed, but his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who were privileged to know him.
The family would like to thank the Central Assembly of God in Houston for their kindness and support and Liberty Dialysis for their love, friendship and care.
Friends and family will be received on Wednesday February 11, 2026 from 2PM to 4PM and 6PM to 8PM at the William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Ave. Washington PA. A funeral service will take place on Thursday at 9:15AM at the funeral home with Pastor Michael Hough officiating.
