Robert W. Polan Jr. passed away peacefully on June 25, 2026, at Canonsburg Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on January 15, 1934, in Claysville, Pennsylvania, Robert’s life journey was one marked by hard work, devotion, and a deeply-felt kindness that touched all who knew him.
Robert’s formative years were spent in Claysville, where he attended Claysville High School. Those early days in his beloved hometown shaped the values that would guide him throughout his life: integrity, compassion, and a genuine care for others.
On December 15, 1953, Robert answered the call to serve his country, joining the United States Airforce as an Airforce Police Officer. He served honorably until 1957, embracing his role with pride and distinction. His years in the Airforce became a source of lifelong pride and exemplified the sense of duty and service that marked all his endeavors.
Following his military service, Robert devoted over two decades to Penn Mould, building a career defined by dedication and diligence. His colleagues remember him as hard working—a man whose reliability and steadfastness were second to none. The work ethic Robert honed during both his military and professional careers became a cornerstone of his enduring legacy.
But it was within the family circle that Robert’s light shone brightest. He was a wonderful father, giving and loving, whose generous heart enriched everyone fortunate enough to know him. Robert cherished every moment spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandson, taking immense pride in the family he helped nurture.
He is survived by his devoted daughter Cheryl Polan and his son Daryl Polan. His spirit will live on through his grandchildren, Courtney Polan, Chad Polan, Ronald Bellinger, and Michael Campos, as well as his great-grandson, Declan Polan. He is also lovingly remembered by his step-son Michael Shuba and step-daughters Tammy Main and Susan Hildebrand.
Robert’s story is also intertwined with those who preceded him in death: his father, Robert Polan; his mother, Pearl Davis Polan; his beloved son, Robert Polan; and his cherished daughter-in-law, Kelly Ward Polan. Their memories are kept alive in the hearts of those they left behind.
Away from work and family, Robert found joy in the simple pleasures of life—a quiet morning spent fishing, and the shared excitement of Pittsburgh Steelers football. Watching the Steelers became a tradition; Monday night football and weekend games were opportunities for laughter, camaraderie, and cherished memories.
Above all else, Robert was remembered for being giving and kind, a man who loved deeply and worked tirelessly to provide for those around him. His legacy endures in the values he instilled in his family, the love he showed each and every day, and the countless lives he touched with his warm smile and generous heart.
The family finds comfort in knowing that Robert’s life was rich and full, marked by service, hard work, and love. His memory will continue to inspire those who knew him, reminding us all of the power of steadfast devotion and the quiet strength of a loving heart.
