Ronald Day Blackhurst, 80, of Canonsburg, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2025, in Presbyterian SeniorCare, Washington. 

He was born April 14, 1945, in Washington, a son of the late Edward Blackhurst and Helen Day Blackhurst. 

After graduating in 1963 from Washington High School, he went on to proudly serve in the US Army. After returning home, Ron obtained an associate’s degree as an electrician from Fayette Institute of Commerce and Technology. He had a tenured career at Washington and Jefferson College as an electrician and maintenance supervisor, from where he retired after 25 years. Ron was a star football player in high school. His passion for sports continued while coaching his children in baseball and basketball. He had a love of trains which he shared with his family. Ron had music in his soul and the dance moves to prove it. He especially loved jazz, blues and big band music. He was an extremely proud father and grandfather and loved nothing more than cooking for and spending time with his family. 

On November 13, 1965, he married Michele “Mickey” Simon Blackhurst, who survives. Also surviving are a son Jason (Michelle) Blackhurst; two daughters, Kimberly Blackhurst and Jodi (Timothy) Dunkle; grandchildren Mitchell Blackhurst, Elliott Blackhurst, Charles Blackhurst and Lorelei Blackhurst; a brother, Gary (Carolyn) Blackhurst; his grand dogs Bailey, Buttons, Azura, Stella, and Velvet the cat; and many nieces, nephews, friends and family. Deceased are his brothers, James Blackhurst, Richard “Dick” Blackhurst, Jack Blackhurst, his grand dogs Miranda, Abby and Popcorn, and his family dog Maddie.

Family and friends will be received from 3 to 6 p.m., the hour of service, Thursday, May 22, 2025, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with Pastor Mike Pearson officiating. Everyone attending the interment is asked to meet at the funeral home at 9 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2025, for a procession to the National Cemetery of Alleghenies, Cecil Township.
