Russell O. McConnell, an indomitable spirit rooted in the heart of Washington, PA, embarked on his final journey on December 19, 2025, at the age of 96, in the tranquil embrace of his home, with his devoted son by his side. Born on October 10, 1929, Russell's life was a tapestry woven with hard work, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to his family.
His career spanned over several decades, beginning at Hazel Atlas Glass, where he labored diligently from 1945 to 1965. He further honed his work ethic at Moly Corporation from 1966 until 1991. Even after retiring from the corporate world, Russell's industrious spirit remained unquenched as he drove a school bus until his well-earned retirement in 2008.
Beyond his remarkable career, Russell's devotion to his community shone brightly. He served as a volunteer fireman for Taylorstown and Canton Twp., He was a passionate supporter of President Donald Trump and found solace and enjoyment in his time spent watching Fox News, engaging deeply with the world around him.
Russell is survived by his loving son, James R. (Amy) McConnell, whose companionship was a constant source of strength and support during his later years. He leaves behind two brothers, James E. (Chris) McConnell and Charles G. (Patty) McConnell, who shared in his lifetime of experiences and memories and his daughter in law Krista McConnell. His family extends into the next generation, with ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his cherished wife, Sarah Jane "Sally" (Stewart) McConnell who he married on January 24, 1967, whose presence in his life was a guiding light, and his son, Randy Stewart McConnell. Russell was also welcomed by his parents, Gaylord and Mable (Hewitt) McConnell, and his brother, David Lee McConnell.
As we bid farewell to Russell O. McConnell, we remember a life devoted to hard work, community service, and unconditional love. His legacy of commitment and compassion will forever echo in the hearts of all who knew him, a poignant reminder of the values he held dear. May he rest peacefully.
