Sara “Sally” Jane Aloia, of Washington, passed away December 30, 2022, in the Washington Hospital. She was the youngest of eight siblings, born to the late Joseph and Letizia Martino Aloia, on Monday, September 30, 1935, in Washington. After graduating from Washington High School in 1953, she was employed by Bell Telephone Company (Verizon), as a long-distance telephone operator for two years. When Bell Telephone went dial in 1956, fewer telephone operators were required in Washington and she transferred to the engineering department of Bell Telephone Company in Pittsburgh, where she worked for forty years. She commuted to Pittsburgh daily. Sally loved her family, especially her four generations of nieces and nephews whom she helped raise. They all loved her very dearly. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Saint James Parish, the Catholic Daughters of America – Court 1651, the Sons & Daughters of Italy – Primo Lodge #2800, and the Bell Telephone Pioneers. Sally loved to cook and bake. As a youngster, she enjoyed being in the kitchen helping her mother. She made the best pasta sauce, cabbage rolls, and wedding soup. She also enjoyed cooking tripe. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Dominick George Aloia, Louis Patrick (Vernadean) Aloia; five sisters and their spouses, Virginia (John) Chicora, Mary Elizabeth Aloia, Rose Aloia Taylor Salisbury, Louise (Frank) Jones, Pearl (Frank) DeLuca; nephews, Frankie Jones, and Roy Salisbury, Jr.; a great-nephew, Paul Chicora, Jr., and a great-niece and Godchild, Rhonda Furmanek. Friends will be received Thursday, January 5, 2023, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A mass of Christian burial will follow, Friday, January 6th, at 10 am, in Immaculate Conception Church, with Rev. Michael Peck as celebrant. Interment to follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
