Sara Jane Litle Mccullough

Sara Jane Litle McCullough died peacefully, at Washington Hospital, on October 22, 2018, following a brief illness.  She was born on June 5, 1931, and raised in Washington, where she grew up with her mother, the late Sara Allison Litle; father, the late William McClelland Litle; brother, the late William Albert Litle; and surviving brother, James Allison Litle of Durham, NC; She had many other cherished Washington County relatives, including her late grandparents: Albert Johnston Allison, Sr. and Etta Tucker Allison, William Absalom Litle and Mary McClelland Litle. Mrs. McCullough was married in 1958 to the late Roy Arthur McCullough, of Waynesburg, the proprietor of the former Sutton Printing Company in Waynesburg. While she and Roy had no children of their own, she had close relationships with her brothers’ children and grandchildren. Their children are Karen Litle of Atlanta, GA, Linda Godfrey and Robert Litle of Dover, MA, Ellen Litle of Sacramento, CA, and Kathryn Litle Scales of Seattle, WA.  Their grandchildren are Sara, Taylor and Ryan Godfrey; Gregory, John, Michael, and Samuel Litle; Kayla and Grace Hussey; and Kendall and Ada Scales. Mrs. McCullough graduated from East Washington High School in 1949. She attended Wooster College in Wooster, OH, graduating in 1953. After Wooster she spent a year at Katherine Gibbs College in Boston, MA. Upon finishing her education, she spent over thirty years working for the Washington Steel Corporation. Except for her years at school, Mrs. McCullough spent her entire life in Washington. Over the years she was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Current Events Club, and the Southpointe Golf Club. She spent many hours making sandwiches, baking cookies, and enjoying many other activities with her husband. Mr. McCullough was an active and dedicated 33rd degree Mason. Mrs. McCullough volunteered and supported his participation in the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Washington area, and the Builders’ Council of the Learning Center for Children with Dyslexia, which is operated by the Scottish Rite Valley of Pittsburgh. She was also active in the Supreme Council Women’s Group of the Valley of Pittsburgh. In addition, she and her husband traveled extensively in the United States, and elsewhere, including memorable trips to Hawaii and Ireland.  She enjoyed many cruises, including to the Panama Canal, and the Eastern and Western Caribbean, in addition to frequent trips to visit far-flung family members. Mrs. McCullough took great pleasure in helping others, by offering rides and lending a hand in any way that she could. She enjoyed her beautiful yard, including the troop of pesky deer who were attracted to her plants and flowers. She was an avid fan of Pittsburgh sports teams, including the Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins. She was stalwart in her love and support of family and friends. She carried forward meaningful traditions and upheld the value in dedicating time to properly execute important events including teas, holidays and celebrations. She was dearly loved and will be missed. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 26th from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm, in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, PA, where a brief service will be held on Saturday, October 27, at 10:00 a.m.  Burial in the Washington Cemetery will be private, and held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, her family asks that memorial gifts be sent to the Washington County Community Foundation, P.O. Box 308, Eighty-Four, PA 15330, for the William and Sara Litle and Roy and Sara McCullough Scholarship Fund to support students studying music at Washington and Jefferson College.
