Shirley Mae Poland

Shirley Mae Poland, 84, of Washington, died Tuesday, February 16, 2021, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was born May 14, 1936, in Washington, the daughter of the late Richard W. and Ethel Baumgardner Boardley. Shirley was a homemaker, worked at Sears & Roebuck, and was a Crossing Guard for Log Pile School. She loved cooking, canning, baking, and sewing. When she was younger, she enjoyed dancing. She loved to make others laugh. Shirley especially loved her family and adopted grandchildren. On September 29, 1950, Shirley married Harold E. Poland Jr., who survives. Also surviving are her 2 sons, Tommy Edwin Poland, and Harold Jasper Poland; numerous nieces and nephews; best friend Elsie Gray; and best friend and nurse Theresa. Shirley will be missed by her beloved pets; Princess the pitbull, Spotty the chiuahua, and Bootsy the cat. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Richard W. Boardley, Jr., and Paul W. Boardley.
