Susan L. Zane-Baker

Susan Iona Zane-Baker passed away peacefully on August 25, 2026, surrounded by her loving family at Valley Hospice Liza’s Place.

Susan was born in Wheeling, West Virginia, to the late Herbert Dale Alley and Ethel Marie Sampson (Alley) of Cameron, West Virginia.

Susan was preceded in death by her beloved son, Samuel Ralph Zane Jr.; her first husband and the father of her children, Samuel Ralph Zane Sr.; and her second husband, Robert W Baker.

Susan was a spicy, stubborn, and feisty woman who was never afraid to speak her mind. If you knew Susan, you knew exactly where you stood with her. She loved big, but she could hold a grudge even bigger. Those who knew her will remember her strong personality, quick wit, determination, and the unforgettable way she made an impression on everyone around her.

Susan was a wonderful seamstress, a talent that flourished throughout her years working at WVA Garment and Bobbie Brooks. She took great pride in her sewing and enjoyed using her skills to create and mend things throughout her life.

She was also a woman who knew the value of a good bargain. Susan was a fierce negotiator when it came to yard sales, and she was not about to pay full price if she could help it. Her family will surely remember her determination to get the best deal.

Above all else, Susan loved her family. She is survived by her daughter Tina Marie Zane, whom was her caregiver & where she resided. She is especially known for her strong bond with her beloved grandson, Scott David Clemens Jr. Her proudest accomplishments in life were connected to Scotty, and she cherished every moment of being his Nana. She is also survived by her former son-in-law Scott David Clemens Sr..

One of Susan's favorite memories involved Scotty when he was in kindergarten. He came to her with a very serious question and asked if she had come over on the Mayflower. It was a question she never forgot and a memory that brought her great joy.

In her spare time, Susan enjoyed sewing, puzzle books, jigsaw puzzles, and playing on her tablet. She found happiness in simple things and in spending time with those she loved.

Susan leaves behind a lifetime of memories that will be treasured by her family and friends. Her feisty spirit, strong personality, loving heart, and unforgettable sense of humor will be deeply missed.

A Celebration of Life for Susan will be held at the convenience of the family.
