Teresa Bernola, a cherished resident of Canonsburg, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026. Born on March 1, 1958, in Weirton, West Virginia, Teresa lived a life marked by dedication, warmth, and an unwavering spirit that left an indelible impression on all who knew her.
Teresa’s educational journey began with her graduation from Burgettstown High School as part of the Class of 1976, where she was honored as the recipient of the prestigious Climax Scholarship Award. Following high school, she furthered her skills at the Wilma Boyd Technical School, preparing herself for a lifetime of professional achievement and personal growth.
Her career was distinguished by a steadfast commitment to excellence and customer care. Teresa initially worked for the Pittsburgh Travel Agency for two years before embarking on a remarkable 30-year tenure with an evolving airline company. She began with Allegheny Airlines reservations and seamlessly transitioned as the airline became USAir, eventually continuing on as a gate and ticket agent for American Airlines, where she retired. Teresa’s loyalty and work ethic were exemplary, earning her the respect and admiration of colleagues and travelers alike.
Those who had the pleasure of knowing Teresa remember her as shy yet remarkably approachable, quickly forming friendships with anyone she met. She was resilient and courageous, a woman of great generosity and a big heart. Teresa had a lively sense of humor and loved to tell jokes, brightening the days of those around her.
Teresa’s personal passions were many and lovingly pursued. She enjoyed reading, traveling, shopping, game nights with family, and picnics and gatherings with close friends. Among her treasured memories are her themed Christmas celebrations and an adventurous trip to New York’s Chinatown, noted humorously for the time half her party was momentarily lost when subway doors closed unexpectedly. These moments reflected Teresa’s zest for life and her love of creating joyful experiences.
Teresa’s proudest accomplishments were her three daughters: Ashley (Chris) Canning, Katherine (Taylor Scheuing) Bernola, and Amanda (Michael) Bandi. She was also a beloved sister to Lori (Andy) Sedlak, and brothers Darrell (Melody) Martin and William (Patty) Martin Jr. Her best friend, Denise Young, and Denise’s daughter Emily, were dear companions who shared in the many joys and challenges of life alongside her.
Teresa was preceded in death by her beloved parents, William and Betty (Dunay) Martin, whose legacy she carried forward with grace.
Though Teresa loved the idea of contributing to science, she was unable to do so herself. In her memory, those who wish to honor her spirit are encouraged to consider donations to Core for Organ Recovery, reflecting her generous and giving nature. Core.org
