Valarie Lea Harvey, 77, of Washington, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 1, 2026, in her home and with her husband of nearly 60 years, Richard G. Harvey, at her side.
Valarie was born on July 16, 1948, to Roylance L. and Kathleen M. Adams, both deceased. She graduated from Trinity High School in 1966. In the past, she served for many years as the administrator at Presbyterian Senior Care in Washington, where she cared deeply for her residents. No one knew her caring nature better than her family, however. She is survived by daughters Tammy M. (Scott) York and Stacy L. Harvey; sister Donna L. (Eddie, deceased) Dyson; several nieces and nephews; and grandchildren Alex York, Aaron York, Camryn McClellan, and Logan McClellan, who were always close to her heart and at the center of her world.
Affectionately dubbed “Memaw” by her family, Valarie was a lively and creative soul who loved crafting, shopping, and adventures with her loved ones, especially to her favorite slice of life in Sugarcreek, Ohio. Her antics inspired hilarity wherever she went, and the joy she found in the little things—from ice-cream lunches to bargain-bin shopping trips—was infectious. She leaves behind cherished traditions: Christmas Eves that bring the entire family together; flowers tended with care through the summer; potato pancakes and Sunday dinners; homemade scrapbooks and crocheted blankets that will be forever treasured. Valarie’s family takes comfort knowing she has rejoined her beloved cats and dogs Farful, Jamie, Sheena, and Snoopy.
Valarie will be missed dearly by all those whose lives she touched. Per her wishes, in lieu of a public viewing, she will be cremated with a private memorial to follow. Her family will gather for dinner afterward as Valarie brings them together, as ever, to find love and support in each other around the table.
