William Gromo “Whitey” McAdams, 86, of Washington, died Sunday, August 22, 2021, in the Washington Hospital. Born March 13, 1935, he was a son of the late Ralph McAdams and Florence Post McAdams. Following his mother’s death, he was raised by his father and stepmother, the late Celia Cane McAdams. Mr. McAdams was born and raised on the McAdams Farm in Amwell Township. Over the course of his life, he worked as a crane operator, welder, machinist, and coal miner, and retired from Millcraft Industries and Mass Machine. Mr. McAdams was a member of Liberty Methodist Church and United Mine Workers. He loved spending time with friends and family, and enjoyed dancing, listening to country music, and working in his garage. A people person, he never met a stranger. On February 14, 1955, he married Peggy JoAnn Post, who died January 6, 2015. Surviving are four children, Peggy A. (Richard) Hines of Canonsburg, Ralph W. (Trudy) McAdams of Washington, Frank R. (Pam Schneider) McAdams of Claysville and Michael W. (Cammy) McAdams of West Finley; six grandchildren, Frank (Kelly) McAdams, Jonathan (Erin) McAdams, Crystal McAdams, Candace (Jeremy) Bird, Michael (Amanda) McAdams, and Matthew McAdams; six great-grandchildren, Nickolas, Tyler, Michael, Liam and Mickey McAdams, and Bailey Bird; and many nieces and nephews. Deceased are three brothers, Lester, Glen and John, and two sisters, Eleanor and Ruth. Friends will be received on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, August 27th. Burial will follow in Claysville Cemetery.
