William "Bill" Albert Smith

William A. "Bill" Smith, 89, passed away peacefully at home, March 31st, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Born on December 22, 1936, in Toledo, Ohio, he was the son of the late Carl Raymond and Reva Rease Smith.

Bill spent his early years working in the series of roller skating rinks his parents owned and ran as a family venture. This venture brought them to Washington, Pennsylvania, where Bill graduated from Trinity High School in 1955. He eventually went to Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, in 1962, where Bill met the love of his life, Nancy Humble Smith. They married on April 15, 1963, and were approaching 63 happy years together at the time of his passing.

He served in the U.S. Air Force before being medically discharged.

Bill spent most of his working years running the other family business, Smith’s Custom Floors with his father, eventually taking over with Nancy’s help. Bill always had a passion for working with his hands, outside of his flooring business he often made beautiful woodworking creations.

He also enjoyed keeping up with the latest electronics, watching television, fishing and being outside on his porch.

Bill is survived by a daughter, Diane Smith Shultz of Waynesburg; a granddaughter, Sydney Kay Shultz of Washington; his pride and joy, his great-grandson, Lorenzo "Enzo" Sean William Lowery, who was named after his beloved great-grandfather and always had a high-five for his Pappy; nieces Heather Best, Tammy Henderson and Debbie Bedillion and; nephews John Saniga, Kevin Saniga and David Roupe and their spouses and families; and brothers-in-law, George Saniga and George Roupe.

In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his siblings, Raymond "Sonny" Smith, Darlene Smith Saniga, Janet Smith Roupe, and Richard Smith, who died in infancy; his nephew, Richard Sphar; and two nieces who died in infancy.

Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 4, 2026, and 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., the time of service, Monday, April 6, 2026, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Interment will be at Washington Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Oak View Methodist Church, 160 Rolling Meadows Rd., Waynesburg, PA 15370.
