Henry Edward Sawchuck, 85, of Washington, died July 12, 2012, in Townview Health and Rehabilitation, Canonsburg.
He was born August 31, 1926, in Washington, son of Andrew and Amelia Margaret Yankovitch Sawchuck.
A World War II veteran, Mr. Sawchuck served in the Navy from January 10, 1944, until his honorable discharge on January 30, 1946, as a Seaman, First Class. He served aboard the USS General John Pope and was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Philippines Liberation Medal and Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal.
Mr. Sawchuck was self-employed as the owner/operator of Battery Life Company in Washington and Uniontown.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, where he served as an usher and was a member of its Booster Club. Mr. Sawchuck was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
He was an avid golfer and enjoyed Pittsburgh sports.
On April 26, 1950, he married Mary F. Guido, who died September 30, 1993.
Surviving are two daughters, Andrea (Kelly) Alderson and Michelle (Kenneth) Westcott, both of Washington; three sisters, Mildred Parkinson of Washington, Laverne Rockwell of Lancaster, Ohio, and Peggy Bunner of Tampa, Florida; and two grandchildren, Anne-Marie Alderson and Kelly John Alderson, both of Pittsburgh.
Deceased are a daughter, Patricia Morris; a brother, John Robert Sawchuck; and a sister, Patricia Nicolella.
Friends will be received Monday from 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 17th, in Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175. In accordance with the deceased’s wishes, memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to John F. Kennedy School, 111 West Spruce Street, Washington, PA 15301.
