Elizabeth “Betty” Smith Spence, 79, a lifelong resident of Washington,
died peacefully at The Washington Hospital on Friday, March 12, 2010.
She was born Christmas Day, 1930, the second daughter of Clarence and
Florence Smith.
She was a member of Washington High School class of 1948, and then went on to work for Bell Telephone.
In 1954 she married Alvin Spence, with whom she shared 56
years of marriage.
A life long member of Allison Avenue/Abundant Life Baptist
Church, she was also involved in the choir and was a regular at the weekly dart ball fellowship.
She was a member of a card club that met monthly for almost 40 years.
Mrs. Spence is survived by her husband Al, sons Wayne Spence (Beth) of
Gibsonia and David Spence (Barbara) of Kennett Square, 4 grandchildren, Brian (Diana), David P., David J. and Kathryn, as well as siblings Ellen Leumann, Mary Jane Smith and David Smith.
Friends will be received 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 18th, in Abundant Life Baptist Church, with Rev. George Garancosky and Rev. Rick Bruckner co-officiating. Entombment will be in Washington Cemetery.
