Paul V. Ford, 85, of Eighty-Four, died Wednesday, May 20, 2009, in Canonsburg Hospital, following a brief illness.
He was born September 3, 1923, in Somerset Township, a son of S. Maurice and Laura Estella Smith Ford.
Mr. Ford was a graduate of Trinity High School. He worked as a brazier at Hankinson Corporation for 17 years and also worked as a truck driver for Montgomery Ward and Washington Produce.
His favorite hobbies were gardening and farming.
Mr. Ford was an Army veteran of World War II. He served with Company C, 157th Engineering Combat Battalion in the European Theater, where he participated in the battles of Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. For his service, he was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with four bronze service stars, American Theater Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Ford attended the 157th’s reunion every year.
On April 23, 1946, he married Gertrude “Gertie” Porter, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Dennis P. (Debbie) Ford, Jeffrey S. Ford and Barry S. (Beth) Ford, all of Eighty-Four; two daughters, Robynne L. Moessner of Washington and Marilynne S. Marshburn of Charlotte, North Carolina; a brother, W. Kenneth Ford of Houston; eight grandchildren, Scott Ford, Michael Moessner, Matthew Moessner, Nathan Mancuso, Jaimee Mancuso, Hannah Ford, Stewart Ford and Logan Ford; and three great-grandchildren, Chloe and Eli Mancuso and Ryan Moessner.
Deceased are five brothers, Robert, Russell, Alvin, Meryl and Harold Ford; and two sisters, Ruth Long and Dorothy Morrow.
Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, Washington, where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 23rd. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Eighty-Four. Military rites will be accorded graveside by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
