Robert Anthony Myers

Robert Anthony Myers, 87 of Southminster Place, Washington, died peacefully at home on Saturday, January 3, 2009. He was born November 12, 1921, in Pittsburgh, a son of Earl and Katherine Myers. He joined the US Navy in 1944 and specialized in aviation mechanics. He retired as Chief Petty Officer after 20 years of service. He was stationed in San Diego, California; Barbers Point, Hawaii; Miramar, California; Anacostia, Washington DC; Atsugi, Japan; and Guam. His awards included the Korean Service Ribbon, United Nations Service Ribbon, the National Defense Service Ribbon, and the China Service Medal. After retirement, he worked for Lockheed Martin in Sunnyvale, California. He enjoyed his family, woodcarving, gardening and his dogs. On September 13, 1955, he married Sachiko Onda of Tokyo, Japan, who died June 11, 2006. Surviving are a son, Robert (Carla) Myers of Kapolei, Hawaii; three daughters, Donna Braman of Alexandria Virginia, Carol (George) Whirlow of Washington and Janet (Ronald) Schmitt of Bridgeville; four grandchildren, Robert Myers, Evan Whirlow, Anna Jane Schmitt and Genevieve Schmitt; and a sister, Katherine McGee, of Pittsburgh. Deceased are two brothers, Roy and Earl Myers. Services will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, January 8th, in the chapel at Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray. Memorial contributions may be made to Southminster Place, Presbyterian Senior Care, 880 South Main Street, Washington PA 15301. William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, is in charge of arrangements.
