Milton F. Jeffers, Sr.

Milton F. Jeffers, Sr., 87, of Houston, died Thursday, October 29, 2009, in The Washington Hospital. He was born November 24, 1921, in Washington, a son of Michael and Margaret Rafter Jeffers. Mr. Jeffers served in the U.S. Army during World War II, in the 94th Infantry Division in the European Theater under General George S. Patton. For his service he was awarded a Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, American Theater Service Medal, European-African-Middle-Eastern Campaign Medal, with four Bronze Stars, and World War II Victory Medal. He was a machine operator at Teledyne and J& L Specialty Steel, for nineteen years. Mr. Jeffers was a member of First United Presbyterian Church in Houston, and a member of American Legion Post 902 in Houston, and Veterans of Foreign War Post 191 in Canonsburg. He enjoyed playing golf, coaching youth baseball, enjoyed all sports, and was an avid Steelers and Pirates fan. On August 1, 1942, he married Josephine Mull, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Milton “Rusty” (Janet) Jeffers, Jr., of Houston; three grandchildren, Jami Craig, Scott Jeffers, and Cody Jeffers; a step grandchild, Kelley Murphy; three great grandchildren, Conner, Casey and Carson Craig; three step great grandchildren, Kayla, Megan and Jenna Murphy. Deceased are a brother, Michael Jeffers, and a sister, Margaret Roth. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 .m., Sunday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 2, 2009, with Rev. Clarejean Haury officiating. Burial will be private at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville. The family suggests memorial contributions to American Cancer Society, 331 South Main Street, Washington, PA 15301.
